Escape from the crowd to discover the beautiful surroundings of the Lazio region, you can spend unforgettable moments in Subiaco and its monasteries.
You explore the village of Subiaco and enjoy a visit of the Benedictine monasteries of the ‘Sacro Speco’ and ‘St. Scholastica’, the principal attractions in Subiaco.
An excellent destination for a trip outside the usual patterns, because you will discover all the wonderful features of Subiaco. First of all the Shrines… Hidden, like a precious gem, between the rock walls of Mount Taleo near Subiaco, in the hinterland of Lazio, the Sanctuary of Sacro Speco overlooking the valley below. The “cave” alludes to the cave, which is still available, where the Young St. Benedict of Norcia spent time as a hermit in the early sixth century.
It was after that period of spiritual recollection that the saint founded the first monastic communities along the valley of the river Aniene, giving way to Western monasticism.
These are a Spectacular collection of religious buildings. The lower monastery is dedicated to St. Scholastica, sister of Benedict, the saint who lived as a hermit in a cave around which will develop the upper monastery. Perched on multiple levels and decorated with admirable frescoes this place is still full of spirituality.
Your tour driver will be happy to recommend some typical restaurants in the area for lunch. Like a little family run restaurant housed in the cellars of the Castle of the Borgias family, where the famous Lucrezia was born.
At the end of the tour, your tour driver will transfer you back to your hotel or any other place of your convenience in Rome.
Your private tour driver will pick you up in Rome for a private tour of some of the most important and significant religious sites in Christianity. Not only a religious tour, but a historical and artistic experience, to explore the unique features and quaint villages of Subiaco
