Are you looking for something "Off the beaten path"? The beautiful Civita di Bagnoregio and Orvieto are just what you need. When in Civitavecchia Port - Rome, discover the surrounding hidden gems. Avoid traffic and all the hustle and bustle of a big city. Enjoy a private tour of the Countryside to Civita di Bagnoregio and Orvieto. Your personal tour driver will welcome you at the dock of your cruise ship. And after a brief introduction, your tour begins. A beautiful trip to the Greenheart of Italy, Upper Viterbo and the Umbria Region This hidden gem of a region, nestled in the countryside of Rome, is known for its green landscapes, prairies and hills. With solid Volcanic grounds that make it the perfect habitat for agriculture. No surprise, the Region of Umbria is one of the largest producers of White wines and EVO in Italy. Bypassing incredible landscapes, your tour driver will take you to discover some of the most beautiful picturesque towns in the area. Before reaching the first destination, stop at Montefiascone, a nice Etruscan town. Montefiascone is built right on top of a hill overlooking Lake Bolsena. It appears today as a charming medieval town. Enjoy the view from the hilltop! Montefiascone is also known for its great production of wine. Then you’ll head up to Civita di Bagnoregio, the ghost town in Southern Umbria This commune is part of the much bigger and inhabited town, Bagnoregio. It is situated in what are called "the badlands". A junction point between Lake Bolsena and the Tiber Valley. A prosperous hub, inhabited by the Etruscans first and by the Romans and later civilizations after. All the way to modern day! Unfortunately the constant natural erosion and seismic events through out the centuries, have made it impossible for this 2500 year old Etruscan settlement to prosper any longer. The land is moist and the volcanic settlements combined with earthquakes, floods and age, have molded this town at its edges, separating it completely from the "mainland". That's why it's called Ghost town, today. Even though it seems like a rustic little village, with tiny stone houses and streets, it is very inhospitable to live in. Especially in the winter. Also because vehicles are not allowed. And the only way to get from Bagnoregio to its Civita, is by foot on a narrow bridge on the edge of a cliff, connecting the village to society. From Civita di Bagnoregio, down again to Viterbo Region and Orvieto Here, you can choose between a light lunch at the wine shop on the main square, or some local cuisine in a typical restaurant, carved in the tuff caves. After lunch, you’ll have time to visit the magnificent cathedral, and you can stroll down Orvieto’s quaint narrow streets filled with colorful shops selling beautiful ceramics. Orvieto produces one of the most famous Italian white wines! For lunch, according to what you are in the mood for, the wine shop in the square offers the opportunity to taste some of the local wines, as well as to eat some of the prosciutto and cheeses locally produced, certainly something to try. As an alternative, time permitting, you might want to have a more substantial meal and taste some of the region’s renowned outstanding foods at a proper restaurant. As you can see this tour has so many things to offer. And it is just one of the many great shore excursions we offer from Civitavecchia Port! After the tour, your personal driver will take you back to the dock of your cruise ship in a safe and timely manner.
Lake Bracciano Tour, one of our favorite shore excursions! If you want to do something different, while docked, consider a relaxing day in the country, to explore the enchanted Lake Bracciano and its Surrounding villages! If you are docked in Civitavecchia Port, a great alternative to the classic Rome tours, would be this particular tour. Lake Bracciano is just a few miles away from Rome, and yet it is totally immersed in a completely different atmosphere. Fully immersed in the "hilly" countryside, this Volcanic lake is surrounded by 3 tiny villages. Bracciano, Trevignano Romano, and Anguillara Sabazia. Quaint villages, of Medieval wonder and rustic charm, surrounded by green hills, in a beautiful setting. The most famous of these villages would be Bracciano Bracciano is a Medieval town perched on the hillside, overlooking the lake. Famous for its amazing 15th century Orsini-Odescalchi Castle. Visited by important personalities such as John Kennedy and Tina Turner, and of course Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’, as their wedding venue. The old part of town surrounding the Castle is definitely worth a visit. It is exactly what you would expect of a Castle and its village. And inside the Castle, everything is immaculate and preserved completely. With original Tapestries hanging from the ceilings, crystal chandeliers, Halls and Galleries and even an exposition of old armors and weapons. And the views from the gardens are absolutely magical. *Upon request, if you'd like to visit the Castle of Bracciano, you can buy your ticket at the booth and as an alternative to the group tours which they usually arrange, a great way to visit the Castle and its museum is to create your personal, fun itinerary to visit the estate on your own. With the delightful help of a video and audio guide, that you can easily download on your phone by scanning a QR code at the entrance. With wonderful explanations, videos and more. Another charming town is Anguillara, with a beautiful vista This small village hosts a beautiful medieval city center, nestled on a hill overlooking the lake. It's such a charming little town. Famous all over the World, for hosting an episode of the tv show "Everybody loves Raymond". And finally, Trevignano Romano! This gorgeous town, a little smaller than Bracciano or Anguillara, is one of the most frequented towns in the Countryside of Rome. There are cliffs, there are historical buildings, there are ruins of Ancient fortresses, there is a beautiful beach, and lake side promenade. This town has it all! And it's quite old too! In fact there is proof that the presence of people in this territory dates back to the Paleolithic! This village simply reflects and beauty, the traditions and the eagerness to preserve it’s ancient history. The architecture and rustic features are simply breathtaking. We highly recommend opting for a lunch in one of the many restaurants with an exclusive position overlooking the lake! A chance to taste some local delicacies and enjoy breathtaking views. However, upon request of course, we offer a personalized option to consider: We can arrange, for a small additional cost, a full meal with beverages in a unique location. A beautiful terrace overlooking the lake, with a privileged panoramic scene. Although the menu may change depending on the seasonal specialties, the personalized lunch would typically include: A jubilation of different home-made appetizer, bruschettas, frittatas and so on Homemade “pasta” dish served with delicious sauce or other Local home-made desserts All served with sparkling water and carefully selected local wine If you'd like to take advantage of this option of "Lunch in the Veranda on the lake", you can select this during the booking process, to add directly to the cost of the tour. After lunch, your tour driver will make one final stop to Calcata, one of the best preserved medieval hill towns in Italy. Calcata is a magical, medieval destination that’s perfect for art lovers. It is a tiny little village, entirely carved in stone on a cliff that overlooks the forrest below. It is a very fascinating place to see, although its position is not very hospitable to live in permanently. In fact the only few citizens in Calcata today, are often writers, singers, artists, hermits or just people in search of inspiration in this mystical isolation you will encounter first hand. During this tour you can notice how the different towns in the Lake Bracciano area all have their own trait. They are all unique in their own way, history and traditions. You will very much enjoy this private shore excursion. What a great opportunity to explore the more Authentic aspect of life in Italy!

Tarquinia, one of the most important Etruscan cities This village is not only a true delight for its architectures, completely surrounded by hills and beautiful landscapes, it is also one of the most well renowned Etruscan built citadel. The Etruscans were one of the predominant civilizations here in Italy, far before the Roman Empire. So this tour will give you the opportunity to better learn about the ancient times of the Italian Peninsula. Through the archeological sites and architectures. In fact, Tarquinia has the greatest Etruscan museum in the World! The National Archaeological Museum, is a World Heritage Site. It is hosted in the Aristocratic Vitelleschi Palace. A beautiful Gothic and Renaissance building. If you are planning on visiting it, the museum is dislocated in two sections: On the ground floor, you can find recoveries placed in chronological order of stone materials from artifacts to marble sarcophagi dating the 4th Century bC! (One of the most impressive halls would be Room Number 10, keep that in mind if you plan on visiting the Museum). The first floor hosts the marvel of Etruscan Art, the beautiful and famous sculpture of the "Winged Horses" a terracotta relief, immaculate conditions, from the 4th century bC. Then other beautiful artworks and reliefs from the later ages. We always like recommending a visit of the Museums, to better understand the culture and traditions of such an ancient civilization through artwork, sculptures and discoveries made in the nearby archeological sites, of theMonterozzi Necropolis. A system of chamber tombs beautiful decorated and painted with frescoes. This ginormous site hosts 6000 graves the oldest of which dates back the 7th Century bC. Next destination, Tuscania A beautiful village, entirely carved in Tuff, a rocky material greatly present in the area. Here your tour driver can recommend some typical restaurants, where you can enjoy a nice and relaxing lunch. There are many Roman and Etruscan burial sites in the Tuscania area, especially along the River banks. They house Etruscan tombs that have preserved the personal belongings of a famous Etruscan family which are now exposed in the Archaeological National Museum of S. Maria Del Riposo. In the medieval historical center of Tuscania, you will enjoy visiting some beautiful ancient Churches, one of which is actually built on an Etruscan acropolis. That’s how fascinating this village is! Upon request, to make the experience the best YET, you can select the service of one of our historian and guides for a private guided tour of Etruscan wonders The area also hosts some great locations where you can enjoy a nice lunch in a local Trattoria, for a real traditional dish. A true delight, your personal tour driver will be happy to recommend the best spots. From Tuscania, you'll later return to Civitavecchia in perfect time to board your ship. After a day exploring the depths of the Central Italian history.
Cascate del Mulino, Saturnia. Hot springs in the heart of Tuscany A pick up at the dock of your cruise ship in Civitavecchia Port, and then off you go. Through the hills of the Maremma Countryside, the South of Tuscany offers amazing views. As many Italian regions, it also hosts natural Hotsprings. Which are used for their healing properties since Ancient times. Starting with the Etruscans then Romans, who really loved pampering themselves and have made it a habit, to the point of creating built-in pools and saunas in their lavish houses, the wealthier among the population of course. Hidden in between the hills, is the beautiful Saturnia. A small village in the Province of Grosseto that is mostly known for its accessible thermal sites. The healing properties of the wells around here are quite renowned. Many people have devoted their lives to this natural resource. Creating hotels and spas to welcome visitors from all over the World. But there are other visitors that just want to explore the natural resources on their own. Browsing free thermal sites, like the famous Cascate del Mulino that are simply magical. Visit the Cascate del Mulino, immersed in a unique atmosphere An old mill, perched on a waterfall that gathers in individual pools, creating a fantastic effect. The water that gusts out of the rocks behind this mill, is warm and constant. Very pleasant, rich with minerals and other components that have a therapeutic effect on the body, skin, mind. Your private tour driver will give you all the instruction on how to fully enjoy and take advantage of this opportunity. Not your typical tour, bring a swimsuit and towel and get ready to relax The Cascate del Mulino complex is a free estate, there are no entrance fees. Completely free and out in the open. The free spa experience is accompanied by a visit to one of the many picturesque towns in the area. Like Manciano, perhaps. One of our personal tour drivers will welcome you at the dock of your cruise ship, and after an introduction, you will learn all about the visit destinations. Argentario coastline to see the little coastal village of Capalbio and a mesmerizing tour of the Tarots Garden! The Argentario coastline is surely one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscany. Monte Argentario, with its mountain, shores, beaches, lagoons and glamorous villages it is the perfect mix of different types of landscapes and features. Some would debate that this is the "chicest" area of the lower Tuscan coastline Not hard to understand why. The natural reserve of Monte Argentario creates an almost immaculate environment. Crystal clear waters, white sands and a relaxing atmosphere are predominant, year round. And the little coastal villages, make for an absolutely idyllic view. It just makes it a pleasant place to dock a yacht. Like Porto Ercole, a harbor settlement in Tuscany and one of the two main bay towns in Argentario. The port is a spectacular cove of clear, blue water and rocky beaches. If you like, you can enjoy a cappuccino with home made pastries, in one of the local bars overlooking the sea. Just to unwind and relax. There are little bistros along the harbor and nice shops to browse for local craftsmanship. Your next stop is Capalbio, a lovely, medieval village. It is usually mostly frequented in summer. The bay hosts lovely resorts to spend a day at the beach. Other than the beach lifestyle, this town has so much to offer. It's name has Latin origins, meaning "White Cape", due to the alabaster mines in the area. It's ancient origins give the town a quaint and rustic look. A walk through the narrow streets of Capalbio is certainly a must to take in the scenery. The old part of town is built in stone, and narrow cobble stone streets are dotted with flowerpots and plants. Your private tour driver can suggest some local spots, where you can grab a bite to eat, before heading to your next location. You can find the most delicious Italian cuisine in the quaint little towns and Capalbio is no exception! It also famous for liquor production. The proximity to the seashore offers the local vineyards all the nutrients to make the local wines unique. From Rosè to Vin Santo, a dessert wine, Capalbio is expert wine maker. You can ask for a glass of "Vino locale della casa" (the house' selection) while you enjoy a nice lunch in a local trattoria or restaurant. In the area of Capalbio there is the most unexpected surprise: The Tarot Garden Immersed in the typical Tuscan Maremma atmosphere, there is a park where an artist named Niki de Saint Phalle’ dreams run wild. The Tarot Gardens, display the artist’s desire to create a colorful masterpiece in the heart of the Maremman countryside. A nice walk in the park where you will soon discover odd creations, mirrors, glass mosaics, fountains and amusing statues, mixed perfectly with the surrounding nature and tranquil atmosphere. Your tour driver will give you a few anecdotes and some details on what you will be doing today. You'll soon arrive at a horse farm called “I tre confini” of Macchia Grande, an exclusive Equestrian club. Meet with Mr. Ugo, the handler and owner of the riding school He will give you a quick course, a basic training before the horseback riding tour, just to go over the principles on how to handle the horses, to get to know these adorable and absolutely friendly guys. A comfortable, casual and even sporty attire is definitely suggested: Jeans and sneakers will do fine Then off you go! A wonderful tour, with Ugo at the head, to give you a backstory on his farm, the local traditions and the landscapes you'll be riding through. How each horse has its own personality. Take in the relaxing atmosphere as you trod about the forrest, bypassing the crops and hills, take it all in. When you get back to the farm, you'll have a nice refreshment waiting for you, to continue your day swapping fun stories and horse-related anecdotes. Not very far from the farm, you will drive through the countryside, to Bracciano Lake! From the horse farm your tour driver will take you off the shores of the beautiful Lake Bracciano, a true gem of the Roman countryside. Explore some, walking through the narrow streets of the "Centro Storico" of Trevignano or visit the highest peak on the trail to La Rocca. Your driver will give you all the suggestions on what to do best while visiting, along with recommending some great restaurants overlooking the lake. (A fantastic option to consider, for lunch with a view) Of course, you can't pass on the opportunity of visiting the Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano! This Medieval Castle is something you Must see, while in the area. It is beautiful, it's architecture so unique. And the history is quite fascinating. At the entrance, after you've purchased your ticket for a small fee, you can scan a QR code directly on your phone, to download the interactive guide. Your driver will assist you with all the information you'll need to enjoy your tour. As you stroll around in the halls, visiting the chambers and gardens, you will learn so much on this incredible castle. Of course, today is mainly a museum. But on rare occasions, it is used as venue for wealthy gatherings, events and even weddings! Perhaps most known for the VIP wedding between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, who chose this very Castle to tie the knot After a full day such as this, you can opt for another brief stop before returning to your cruise ship in Port. A stop in Cerveteri, one of Italy’s great Etruscan cities. If you'll have enough time, that is. This quaint town has an incredible history, as ancient as the Roman Empire, and before that, during the Etruscan Era. In fact, Cerveteri is not only a World Heritage site officially, but it also hosts an amazing Etruscan Necropolis, one of the largest in the world. Not just a regular grave site. It is an entire field of mounds and burial places as big as mini apartments, beautifully decorated with frescoes and sculptures. A very fascinating introspection on local history. Time permitting, we highly recommend a stop there. So as if horse riding in the country of Rome wasn't enough, on this tour, you'd have the great opportunity to visit beautiful places in the area for a truly remarkable shore excursion from Civitavecchia Port.

After meeting with your tour driver in Civitavecchia Port, you'll travel inland, to the Southern region of Tuscany, in the so-called "Città del Tufo" Archeological Park.
