This tour is especially designed for cruisers that have already been to Rome and just want to refresh their memories or visit some of the sights missed in their previous trip. It includes short stops at all the major sites in Rome, as well as free time for lunch. Your English-speaking tour driver will welcome you at the dock beside your ship in Civitavecchia at around 8.30am (suggested time). During the 75 minute drive into central Rome, you will bypass the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, the Circus Maximus, and the Palatine Hill, where there are ancient ruins of what were once imperial palaces.

Our first stop will be at the Colosseum, which dates back to 80 AD, and is certainly the most impressive building of the Roman Empire. You’ll have some time to walk around the Colosseum to take photos and eventually visit it inside on your own. Upon request, we can arrange reservations to reduce the amount of time in line.

After the Colosseum, we will drive by the Circus Maximus, an ancient Roman stadium famous for chariot races and entertainment. Next, you will see the Capitoline hill, one of Rome’s seven legendary hills, where you can enjoy a scenic view overlooking the Forum, where countless foundations, columns and arches have survived the religious, civil and commercial hub of imperial Rome. Then, we will drive to the Pantheòn, the best-preserved example of an ancient, Roman monumental building, where you will have time to stop for pictures and visit it on the inside.

Our next stop is the Trevi Fountain, the most famous and arguably, the most beautiful fountain in all of Rome; legend says that if you toss a coin into the fountain over your left shoulder it will guarantee a return visit to the eternal city. For lunch, your tour driver will suggest a local typical restaurant in Trastevere, or Campo de Fiori, two of Rome’s most charming areas.

Our final stop in the afternoon is the St. Peter’s Basilica (Vatican), which has the largest interior of any Christian church in the world. It is affirmed as one of the Holiest Catholic sites in the World. Take time to enter St. Peter’s Basilica and admire the High Renaissance and baroque architecture. The church’s atmosphere is almost overwhelming, with its grateness of art and golden details, marble and mosaics. Be sure not to miss Michelangelo’s magnificence, the Pieta, completed when the young master was just in his 20s, which is in the right nave as you enter the Basilica. Be aware that security checks are required at the Vatican, and you should expect a wait to enter the Basilica. Time allowed inside the Basilica is based on the required wait time to enter.

There is a dress code if you are to visit St. Peter’s Basilica. Shorts are not allowed for men or women; tank tops, bare shoulders, or short skirts are not permitted. Dress appropriately or you cannot enter. Please come prepared, we wouldn’t want for you to be disappointed.

At around 2:00pm, we will get ready to drive back to the port in order to arrive at the dock beside your ship between 3:15-3:30pm.

The tour program as listed above includes simply suggested itineraries and sights, and can easily be further customized in order to suit your schedule, all your specific interests and needs.

This tour length approximately 7 hours in total and is conducted by an English-speaking tour driver that will not enter sites, but drive you around and show you places, pointing out things while explaining what they are, as well as stopping at the places that require a visit and helping you access them.
