Full description of the tour

Your English-speaking tour driver will welcome you at the cruise terminal in Naples for your private, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius tour.

This tour combines Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius

Your first stop is Pompeii, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy. You will enjoy a privately guided tour of the ruins with an authorized, archaeological, English-speaking guide.

Ever since Pliny the Younger wrote his moving letters to Tacitus describing the eruption of Vesuvius that buried Pompeii in 79 AD, the city has been the focus point of many books, and a perfect subject for the big screen. Much of the site, is open to the public and requires at least two hours of visiting.

After Pompeii, we will continue to Herculaneum for another private visit of the ruins with your private guide.

Herculaneum’s ruins are less known, but even better preserved than Pompeii’s ruins. The fate of Herculaneum paralleled that of nearby Pompeii.

According to legend, this Greek settlement was founded by Hercules. The difference was that Herculaneum was buried by a river of volcanic mud, not the tufa stone and ash that rained on Pompeii. The mud helped preserve it for future generations.

When the town was rediscovered in 1709, amateur excavations were carried out intermittently until 1874, when much of the material found was carted off to Naples to decorate houses of the wealthy or to end up in museums. Serious archaeological work was begun in 1927 and excavation still continues today.

After Herculaneum, the best conclusion of this tour is the visit of the volcano “Vesuvius“, responsible for the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Your English-speaking tour driver will suggest to you some local trattorias for a brief lunch in the area. After, you will drive to the volcano to admire one of the most beautiful panoramic pictures over Naples.

The still active volcano dominates the landscape, luring ominously over Naples and its provinces.

The last eruption was in 1944; it blasted open the cone and plumes of smoke that have now disappeared and are no longer reminding the people of the peril they went through. This may have eased the minds of some, but living in the shadow of Vesuvius is like staying on the fault line in Los Angeles – scientists consider more eruptions a sure thing.

After the private Vesuvius Volcano, Pompeii and Ercolano tour, you will return back to your ship around 5:00pm.

A private tour driver will welcome you in Naples Port. You will have a wonderful tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius, with your private tour driver. Also, especially for you, we will provide a private Archeology expert guide, for a private guided tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum’s sites.

At the end of this fascinating tout, your driver will take you back to Naples, in time for you to board your cruise ship.
