Murano, the “art district” is famous for its renowned glassworks, Worldwide.

Interesting fact, glasswork has always been a pillar in Venice’ culture and lifestyle, for centuries. In 1291, the Venice government decided to ban the production from the City center, to avoid the risk of catastrophes, that this type of activity could clearly cause back then. The unofficial reason was that the government was fearing the existence of industrial counter-intelligence. Since the request for such a renowned product has always been very high, as a result, craftsmen were confined to continue their work on Murano Island. And ever since then, the Venice glass work and its factories have continued to flourish, evolving with the art movement throughout the Centuries. Amazing how such a unique tradition, produces beautiful art work for customers all over the World.

Your next stop will be fishermen’s Island, Burano.

You will notice how each house is painted in different colors. This neighborhood will give you a sense of a small community. Incredible how this charming venue is still strongly attached to ancient traditions. While you’re in Burano, you can’t miss the most colorful house on the Island, La Casa di Giuseppe (Giuseppe’s House), particularly relevant in local traditions, for lace making. In fact, lace making and selling is a strong component the Islands inhabitants’ lifestyle.
