The first visited venue will be the Doge’s Palace. As soon as you’ve reached Piazza San Marco, Saint Mark’s Square, you will head to the HQ of ancient Venetian Republic. Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) is perhaps the most illustrious of buildings in Venice’ landmarks.
It not only was the private residence of the Doge of Venice, it also hosted the House of Government of the Venetian Republic, law courts and the State Prison, throughout the Centuries.
During your visit you will get a complete insight, thanks to the knowledge of your private guide, of the true meanings of this City’s history, artistically, politically and aristocratically. This will give you an idea of the importance of art in the past and present society, thanks to the philosophy of the Venetian School of art.
From The Doge’s Palace you will walk to the World famous “Ponte dei Sospiri” (The Bridge of Sighs) from where you can see the “New Prison of Venice”, built in the late 16th century.
Your guide will then take you to see the Basilica of San Marco also known as the Golden Church as it is covered in almost two acres of golden mosaics. You will also admire the golden the magnificent Golden Screen, decorated with almost 2.000 precious stones.
You will notice the actual wideness of the lagoon and how important it is for the Venetian environment. During the tour you will visit Murano, where the art of glass making is still strong in the local community and where you can find glass men workshops, that produce art creations with glass.
At the end of this Venice Full Day tour, you will return to Piazza San Marco.
