Your tour driver will welcome you at your hotel or any other place of your convenience in Rome for your private Todi & Spoleto tour. On this tour you will explore two of the most charming umbrian towns, Todi & Spoleto.
Once in Umbria our visit will begin in Todi, also known for being the hometown of Jacopone da Todi, a famous Italian poet that wrote in Italian its poems. Todi is still surrounded by mediaeval, Roman and Etruscan walls and is a quite small town, full of famous monuments, such as the amazing medieval Piazza del Popolo (among the biggest medieval squares in Italy), formerly central point of the Roman town, and closed in the Middle Ages by four doors and the Renaissance Consolazione Church (project attributed to Donato Bramante).
There are several Roman cisterns beneath the piazza that may be visited, although Todi is a hill town, its centre at the top of the hill is flat.
After your tour driver has introduced the city with its history to you, he will give you some free time to walk around and visit some of the major sights.
Todi offers relaxing moments and at the same time a sensational return to our ancient past, to the epoch of dusty streets, and to the famous periods in Umbria which reminds us of St. Francis of Assisi. The territory of Todi is not only famous for its monuments, buildings, churches, history, landscapes or uncontaminated environment, but also for its artistic craftmanship, its genuine food, its strong wines such as Grechetto di Todi and for its hospitality towards its guests.
After Todi our next destination is Spoleto, one of the largest towns in southern Umbria, the perfect place to immerse yourself in Italian history, culture and food. A beautiful and charming medieval town, a perfect medieval city with loads of charm in a beautiful setting. Spoleto has a lots of interesting sights, nice shops, and great restaurants where you can sample the Umbrian cuisine.
The Duomo is one of Spoleto’s finest sights. Begun in the twelfth century, the delicate-looking cathedral is set against a backdrop of hills and valleys. The Duomo is an amalgam of styles, and boasts an apse frescoed by Fra Filippo Lippi, whose tomb lies in the church.
Spoleto is home to two important annual events – the Two Worlds Festival (Festival dei Due Mondi), a celebration of art, music and theater; and the Spoleto Jazz Festival, which bring people from all over the world. The mingling of cultures and artistic sharing gives Spoleto a stimulating and animated atmosphere.
At the end of the tour we will drive you back to Rome.
This tour length is approximately 10 hours in total and is conducted by an English-speaking tour driver that will not enter sites but drive you around and show you places, pointing out things while explaining what they are, as well as stopping at the places which require a visit and helping you access them.
Your private tour driver will welcome you in Rome. During the day, you will discover interesting little villages in the Central Italian regions. So quaint and fascinating. Your driver will be happy to give you amazing anecdotes and fun facts on these small towns.
At the end of this tour, your driver will take you back to your hotel or any other place of your convenience in Rome.
