Full description of the tour

A day in Florence

Our English speaking tour driver will welcome you at your hotel or any other place of your convenience for your private day excursion to Florence. Florence represents the cradle of Renaissance, thanks to Medici Court and their patronage which adorned artists and writers; it became the central point for the cultural life during 15th and 16th centuries.

However, just during the 13th and 14th centuries, did Florence give us some illustrious characters like Giotto, Cimabue, Arnolfo di Cambio, and Orcagna, who left with their masterpieces in the city of Lily, serving as models for all Italian art.

Let’s start our tour from Santa Maria del Fiore, Filippo Brunelleschi’s best work finished between 1420 and 1434 with the orignial project belonging to Arnolfo di Cambio who started the construction in 1296. We proceed with Piazza Della Signoria.

So much history and beauty!

It is to medieval town planners that we owe this historic city center. Palazzo Della Signoria, named also Palazzo Vecchio, is located on a corner of the square. Initially, it was the seat of Priors of Arts, (heads of guilds) then it became temporarily under Cosimo I of Medici, the place of Medici government.

Then, we continue to Ponte Vecchio which represents one of the most famous bridges in the world and the most ancient in Florence. We have proof of its existence since the 10th century, but a flood of the Arno in 1333 destroyed the original structure. You can’t miss Palazzo Pitti, planned by Filippo Brunelleschi. It is the biggest and the most important palace in Florence.

We will next move to the Academy Gallery, a well-known museum founded by the Grand Duke Peter Leopold, hosting famous sculptures like the “David” of Michelangelo. This palace was restored and set up in the last century.

For lunch, your tour driver will be happy to suggest you some typical, traditional Florentine “trattoria” for an authentic tuscan meal.

In the afternoon, we will stop in Piazzale Michelangelo where you can enjoy the most beautiful panorama of the city.
