Cascia was the home of Saint Rita. After her dedication in 1900, a large shrine was built in Cascia, which is still an important place of pilgrimage, and the house where she was born is open to public.
The modern territory of Cascia was a Roman settlement , destroyed in the 1st century BC by an earthquake. In the middle ages, it became a feudal center. And then it became a papal town until the unification of Italy in 1860.
Your tour driver can suggest to you some great, typical restaurants in the area for lunch. After, you’ll go to Roccaporena, Santa Rita’s birthplace in 1381. Here you can visit some places associated with the Saint, such as her native house, the miraculous rose garden, the church where she was baptized, and the so-called “Scoglio” — a cliff which the Saint used to climb to pray.
From Roccaporena, your private tour driver, will take you back to your hotel in Rome, while you enjoy the beautiful scenery.
