The nephew of Pope Paul V, Cardinal Scipione Caffarelli Borghese, commissioned this villa in 1613 in his family vineyard, outside Porta Pinciana. Flaminio Ponzio planned the Casina, and after his death Giovanni Vasanzio continued his work. He followed Villa Medici’s style in embellishing the outside with rich decorations taken from archaeological sites, so that visitors could identify the structure as a private museum.

In the Borghese gallery you can see a substantial portion of Scipione Borghese’s fantastic collection of paintings, sculptures, and antiquities.
Your own private guide will show and introduce you masterpieces by Caravaggio and Raphael, Bernini (Apollo and Daphne, David, The Rape of Proserpine), Titians’ Sacred and Profane Love, Canova’s Venus, scandalous portrait of Paulina Borghese, sister of Napoleon.
