Our English-speaking driver/guide will welcome you at the dock beside your cruise ship in Livorno at 8.00am (suggested time).

We will drive passing along the Etruscan Coastline directly to Volterra, one of Tuscany’s most fascinating Etruscan cities that at that time was called the rich Velhatri, and its first town-wall enclosure, built during the 5th/4th century A.C. What you will first notice is its profile crowned by the imposing fortress, that rises at dominion of the underlying territory.

Volterra together with San Gimignano are the cities of stone. They narrow streets, looming towers, and majestic palaces and fortifications are made of stone. It is famous as a center of alabaster– working, a craft which was revived in the 19th century and in recent years, Volterra has attracted international attention for its connection to the famous Twilight series of books and movies. Your driver/guide will provide you with an introduction of this town and its history and will give you some free time to stroll around.

After Volterra our next destination is San Gimignano, a small hilltop town crowned by a cluster of tall medieval towers, a famous town known worldwide as “the town of hundred towers”

San Gimignano was considered the Manhattan of the 13th century boasting seventy two towers; today fourteen are left. They were built as symbols of wealth and as a security measure by the town’s prosperous merchants of the time. San Gimignano is known also of one of the most important white wines of Italy named Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the absolute first white wine to receive the DOC status in 1966. For ice cream lovers, San Gimignano is also home to award-winning gelato, don’t worry, your chauffeur/guide will help you to localize it in the main piazza.

At the end of the tour you will drive back to the port of Livorno in perfect time to re board your cruise ship.
