Your English speaking chauffeur/guide will welcome you at your hotel or any other place of your convenience in Rome at 8.30am (suggested time) and will drive you to Tivoli, a small, hilltop town located just 30 minutes away from Rome.
Enjoy a beautiful day trip to the town of Tivoli and its amazing archeological site in an atmosphere of comfort, relax and fun. With this exclusive tour, you will certainly feel like you’ve gone back in time.
Tivoli is home to more than its fair share of wonders. It hosts Villa Adriana or Hadrian’s villa, one of the Italian UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Built by the request of the Emperor Hadrian, the Villa is a monumental living complex that even today continues to display the lavishness and enormous power of Ancient Rome and the Villa d’Este, built by Cardinal d’Este in the XVIth century and famous all over the world for its wonderful fountains and for its Italian style gardens.
Once arrived in Tivoli we will start at Hadrian’s Villa where you will be greeted by one of our official expertised English speaking guides. Together with the guide you will discover and enjoy this fascinating private guided tour through Hadrian’s Villa, today a paradise composed by the remains of 30 buildings that you won’t never forget.
After Hadrian’s Villa we will drive straigh to the hilltop town of Tivoli where we will give you some free time for a nice walk in the little and ancient town. The city offers a wide view over the Roman Campagna. Tivoli’s quarries produce travertine, a particular white calcium-carbonate rock used in building most Roman monuments. The water power of the falls supplies some of the electricity that lights Rome. The slopes of the neighboring hills are covered with olives, vineyards and gardens.
For lunch we have sellected one of the Top Restaurants in Tivoli, close to an ancient roman temple in a fascinating natural environment painted by hundreds of artists by the waterfall of Aniene river, sitting under the branches of a XVIIIth century wisteria. You will enjoy a complete meal consistening of various apetizers, excellent local pasta dishes and second course (variety of grilled meats) all accompanied by an excellent local wine.
After lunch your day will continue with a private guided tour of the Villa D’Este. With your private guide you will visit this magnificent Villa, built in the heart of the Renaissance (around 1550) for the will of the Cardinal Ippolito II d’Este, Tivoli’s governor! You will walk around the Villa with your guide, taking in the gardens and posing for photos in front of Bernini-designed fountains while learning about the Cardinal and his lavish life in the villa.
The Villa d’Este’s fame, however, is due more to its gardens than to the building itself. This most famous of Italian-style gardens, which has been imitated, reverberates with the sound of so many fountains that it inspired the Romantic composer Franz Liszt to write a piano suite called “Fountains of the Villa d’Este”.
At the conclusion of this exclusive tour, your chauffeur/guide will drive you back to Rome.
