Your English-speaking chauffeur/guide will welcome you at the dock beside your cruise ship in Livorno at 8.00am (suggested time).

We start from Livorno, a harbor town of Tuscany, and a short trip takes us to Pisa, one of the most important ancient maritime republics. Here, we visit the Square of the Miracles, site of the recently restored Leaning Tower of Pisa. Construction of the tower began in 1176, and was completed in 1350 by Tommaso Pisano. An interesting cathedral found in the square, is in the Pisan Romanesque style. The baptistery, which is adjacent to the cathedral, is decorated with gothic motifs. Each of the monuments in the square complement each other to create a harmonious effect. Many of the historical buildings, which have now become part of the University of Pisa, are also able to be explored.

Next, we drive to Lucca and take a stroll through the old town influenced by the Etruscan civilization, which later became a Roman municipality. In the Middle Ages, Luca was a republic governed by the aristocracy; at one time it was even governed by Elisa Baciocchi, sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. The visit to Lucca ends with a brief walk along the city walls which are a unique feature of the town.

A drive through the Lucchese area of Montecarlo is next on the agenda. After, we will visit a lovely agriturismo called Il Poggio, where we will take a stroll around the vineyards and olive groves, while an expert explains the various types of grapes used to make their Chianti wine. The vineyard tour is followed by a wine tasting accompanied by samples of specialties of the house, such as homemade pasta, bruschette and antipasto (not included in the price of the tour). We also take time to enjoy another Tuscan specialty — biscottini and Vin Santo desert wine. The day concludes with a trip back to Livorno.

This tour length is approximately 9 hours in total and is conducted by an English-speaking driver/guide that will not enter sites but drive you around and show you places, pointing out things while explaining what they are, as well as stopping at the places that require a visit and helping you access them.
