Your chauffeur/guide will welcome you at your hotel or any other place of your convenience at 8:00am (suggested time). After, we will drive straight to Norcia (about a 2 hour ride) via the E45 freeway. Once arrived in Norcia your chauffeur/guide will introduce to you this town and give you some free time to explore the area.
Norcia is a town and commune in the province of Perugia (Italy) in southeastern Umbria, located in a wide plain bordering the Monti Sibillini, a sub-range of the Apennines. Some of its highest peaks are near the Sordo River, a small stream that eventually flows into the Nera. The town is thus popularly associated with the Valnerina (the valley of the river).
This area is known for its air and scenery; it is a base for mountaineering and hiking. It is also widely known for hunting, especially of the wild boar, and for sausages and ham made from wild boar and pork. Norcia has given its name to such products in Italian, “norcineria”.
Your chauffeur/guide can suggest to you some great, typical restaurants in the area for lunch. After, we will drive for another half hour approximately to Cascia.
Cascia was the home of Saint Rita, who was born in the nearby commune of Roccaporena in 1381; she also died there in 1457. After her dedication in 1900, a large shrine was built in Cascia, which is still an important place of pilgrimage, and the house where she was born may still be visited.
The modern territory of Cascia was the home of the Roman settlement of Carsulae, destroyed in the 1st century BC by an earthquake. In the middle ages, it was annihilated by the Byzantines and the Lombards, and was later an estate of land held on condition of feudal service for the Trinci family. It was occupied by papal troops in the 15th century, and thenceforth, it was a papal town until the unification of Italy in 1860.
You will return back to Rome at around 4:00pm in order to be back by 6:00pm.
