Holy Rita from Cascia & Roccaporena shrine, is one of our fascinating tours. A trip to discover some of the most relevant religious venues in Italy.
Your tour driver will welcome you at your hotel or any other place of your convenience at 8:00am (suggested time). After, we will drive straight to Cascia (about a 2 hour ride) via the E45 freeway. Once arrived in Cascia your tour driver will introduce to you this town and give you some free time to explore the area.
Cascia was the home of Saint Rita, who was born in the nearby commune of Roccaporena in 1381; she also died there in 1457. After her dedication in 1900, a large shrine was built in Cascia, which is still an important place of pilgrimage, and the house where she was born may still be visited.
The modern territory of Cascia was the home of the Roman settlement of Carsulae, destroyed in the 1st century BC by an earthquake. In the middle ages, it was annihilated by the Byzantines and the Lombards, and was later an estate of land held on condition of feudal service for the Trinci family. It was occupied by papal troops in the 15th century, and thenceforth, it was a papal town until the unification of Italy in 1860.
Your tour driver can suggest to you some great, typical restaurants in the area for lunch. After, we will drive for another 15 minutes to Roccaporena, Santa Rita’s birthplace.
Here you can visit some places associated with the Saint, such as her native house, the miraculous rose garden, the church where she was baptized, and the so-called “Scoglio” — a cliff which the Saint used to climb to pray. The Sanctuary and the Rock are the main and unmissable “attractions” here in Roccaporena.
From Roccaporena, your private tour driver, will take you back to your hotel in Rome, while you enjoy the beautiful scenery.
This tour length is approximately 10 hours and is conducted by an English-speaking tour driver that will not enter sites but drive you around and show you places, pointing out things while explaining what they are, stopping at the places that require a visit, and helping you access them.
