This tour is designed especially for wine & food lovers in order to appreciate the different options offered by the Chianti region and its main wine valleys. Wine and food, culture and heritage offering visitors the chance to meet the personalities behind the wine industry.

Your chauffeur/guide from DiscoveryGuidedTours will welcome you at the dock beside your cruise ship in Livorno at 8.00am (suggested time) in order to explore the beautiful hill country of the Chianti region which lies between the major cities of Florence and Siena, bordered on the east by the Chianti mountains and to the west by the Elsa river. You will enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside rolling hills dotted by vineyards, cypress trees, olive trees and ancient Medieval villages churches and abbeys, castles and fortresses.

Our first stop will be at Greve in Chianti, the main capital of the wine region that boasts a friendly market town atmosphere with its attractive arcaded Piazza Matteotti where there are numerous Enoteca’s (wine bars) offering specialized wine and olive-oil tastings.

We will then going to visit a winery in the hearth of the Chianti region for your tour and tasting session. The tour will start with a visit of the vineyard and the wine cellars, you will see where the grapes are crushed, and where the wine is matured and later bottled while hearing some secrets of Tuscan winemaking. After visiting the vineyard and the cellar, take a seat at a wine glass–laden table, and sip on different glasses of wine made by the estate. The varietals are subject to change, but typically a glass of Chianti Classico, Chianti Reserve, the eponymous Tuscan vinsanto (dessert wine) or a prestigious white wine are served. Savor the complex and fruity flavors that are prevalent in Tuscan wine, and hear tasting tips to help you understand the characteristics of different grapes that are used.

Your chauffeur/guide will be happy to suggest some typical, local traditional Tuscan restaurants in the area, or if you wish can be set up in the same vinery. After lunch you will visit some other agricultural estate. So you will round off your day dedicated to one of the most famous wines in the world before returning to Livorno to wind down after such an exciting day out.
