  • My husband and I were picked up at the port for the best day of our cruise! Gilberto guided us through a perfect Italian day, thru countryside and small towns that tourists would never get to enjoy. It was the perfect balance of tour information with Gilberto and time on our own. We could take as much time as we wanted at each stop, he just waited. He made suggestions but we could have made any request of him. And be sure to add the lunch! Amazing local restaurant, delicious food, great wine, beautiful scenery. We could order what we wanted from menu. Thanks, Pamela, for your help booking! We may go back just to tour with Gilberto again!

  • Amazing Tour - Amazing Gilberto!! My husband and I are travel agents for 24 years and we have had some special trips and tours over the years, plus, some wonderful guides. I must say that Gilberto is at the top!! We were so fortunate to have him for our group of 4 adults. We all had visited Rome several times, so when our ship ported into Civitavecchia, we wanted to try something different. A visit to Lake Bracciano and its surrounding medieval towns sounded charming. I contacted Gilberto who was so helpful, quick in answering emails, and superbly talented at knowing what to suggest doing. I contacted Gilberto many many months ahead of our visit and I asked if there were any way possible that he could be our guide. We got him, and my goodness, what an amazing day we had!! It was unbelievable. He took us to Lake Bracciano where we started our adventures. Of course, ice cream came first. Ha ha! There was a little ice cream shop right on the walk at the lake. It was delicious!! Then we headed up the hills into the town of Trevignano to explore. Gilberto guided on parts of our day, but on other parts, he let us explore on our own. He knew the correct balance that makes for a lovely tour. We had asked for lunch to be included for the day. When lunchtime came, he said he was going to take us now to lunch with a lovely view. Well, we had no idea what was in store. We trusted Gilberto totally so we thought this should be fun. To our amazement, excitement, and pleasure, he took us to his home and his wife prepared us the most wonderful meal I have ever eaten in Italy!!! We had a huge anti-pasta spread with homemade pizza, salads, fruits, olives, cheeses, meats, etc. Then came the spaghetti dish that was sooo delicious! To end this glorious meal, we had tiramisu - the best I have ever tasted!! All the ingredients for our lunch were grown in their little vegetable garden out back and the cheeses all came from the neighbor's farm. One could not ask for more!! If you are interested in staying at his villa, which he does rent out two rooms with meals, you can contact him. It is such a beautiful setting and you definitely cannot beat the food. If you want to spend an unusual day, a day like none other, then reserve with Gilberto. Words cannot describe what a special day it was to be with him on his home lake of Bracciano.

  • Over the past 7 years, I have used Discovery Tours personally 3 times. From our recommendation, some friends and family has used them on 3 other occasions. They have been used for simple transfers, several single day excursions, for 1 multi-location excursion (hired them for all of our cruise stops in Italy), and for an 18 days Italian country tour for 8 people. All experiences were 5 star. The Discovery Tour team took the time to help us select appropriate destinations for our interests and size group, recommended "must see" activities and cultural experiences, and advised us on the best places to eat in each location (my favorite part). The team is courteous, professional, and willing to help and guide as needed. The means of transportation are clean, elegant, and professional. Their team of drivers and guides are engaging and interested in what they are showing you. To me, the guide makes up 75% of the experience. My favorite tour (around Rome) is the Bracciano Lake and Surrounding areas. I have visited Rome and its primary tourist stops several times, but the lake area gets you away from the hustle and bustle of Rome and allows you to see the countryside and other interesting villages outside of Rome. I have taken this tour 3 times, with 3 different sets of friends/family, because I felt compelled to show them what life looks like outside of Rome. Everyone enjoyed the day to the fullest, including myself. I would absolutely do it again, if the situation arose.

  • My wife and I got to Rome two days before our cruise was to leave, and we wanted a chance to see the surrounding area. What a great time we had because of Discovery Tours! Gilberto was our driver and guide as we went north to Lake Bracciano and the local area. He was extremely knowledgeable about the ancient Etruscan sites, and really helped us appreciate what we were seeing. He also took us to a great local restaurant where the food was fabulous! We had such a good experience that we asked Gilberto if he would come to Rome and show us around. He was able to take us and our friends (another couple) all around Rome, and you have never seen a better driver! Rome traffic can be quite scary, but Gilberto handled it with ease. After leaving on our cruise, we realized we would have another free day in Rome when the cruise was over, so we contacted Gilberto again, and had another wonderful day! Gilberto and Discovery Tours are the best way to get the most out of your visit to Rome! William R San Diego, California
