Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio Tour from Civitavecchia

Are you looking for something "Off the beaten path"? The beautiful Civita di Bagnoregio and Orvieto are just what you need. When in Civitavecchia Port - Rome, discover the surrounding hidden gems. Avoid traffic and all the hustle and bustle of a big city. Enjoy a private tour of the Countryside to Civita di Bagnoregio and Orvieto. Your personal tour driver will welcome you at the dock of your cruise ship. And after a brief introduction, your tour begins. A beautiful trip to the Greenheart of Italy, Upper Viterbo and the Umbria Region This hidden gem of a region, nestled in the countryside of Rome, is known for its green landscapes, prairies and hills. With solid Volcanic grounds that make it the perfect habitat for agriculture. No surprise, the Region of Umbria is one of the largest producers of White wines and EVO in Italy. Bypassing incredible landscapes, your tour driver will take you to discover some of the most beautiful picturesque towns in the area. Before reaching the first destination, stop at Montefiascone, a nice Etruscan town. Montefiascone is built right on top of a hill overlooking Lake Bolsena. It appears today as a charming medieval town. Enjoy the view from the hilltop! Montefiascone is also known for its great production of wine. Then you’ll head up to Civita di Bagnoregio, the ghost town in Southern Umbria This commune is part of the much bigger and inhabited town, Bagnoregio. It is situated in what are called "the badlands". A junction point between Lake Bolsena and the Tiber Valley. A prosperous hub, inhabited by the Etruscans first and by the Romans and later civilizations after. All the way to modern day! Unfortunately the constant natural erosion and seismic events through out the centuries, have made it impossible for this 2500 year old Etruscan settlement to prosper any longer. The land is moist and the volcanic settlements combined with earthquakes, floods and age, have molded this town at its edges, separating it completely from the "mainland". That's why it's called Ghost town, today. Even though it seems like a rustic little village, with tiny stone houses and streets, it is very inhospitable to live in. Especially in the winter. Also because vehicles are not allowed. And the only way to get from Bagnoregio to its Civita, is by foot on a narrow bridge on the edge of a cliff, connecting the village to society. From Civita di Bagnoregio, down again to Viterbo Region and Orvieto Here, you can choose between a light lunch at the wine shop on the main square, or some local cuisine in a typical restaurant, carved in the tuff caves. After lunch, you’ll have time to visit the magnificent cathedral, and you can stroll down Orvieto’s quaint narrow streets filled with colorful shops selling beautiful ceramics. Orvieto produces one of the most famous Italian white wines! For lunch, according to what you are in the mood for, the wine shop in the square offers the opportunity to taste some of the local wines, as well as to eat some of the prosciutto and cheeses locally produced, certainly something to try. As an alternative, time permitting, you might want to have a more substantial meal and taste some of the region’s renowned outstanding foods at a proper restaurant. As you can see this tour has so many things to offer. And it is just one of the many great shore excursions we offer from Civitavecchia Port! After the tour, your personal driver will take you back to the dock of your cruise ship in a safe and timely manner.

Visited by important personalities such as John Kennedy and Tina Turner, and of course Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’, as their wedding venue. The old part of town surrounding the Castle is definitely worth a visit. It is exactly what you would expect of a Castle and its village. And inside the Castle, everything is immaculate and preserved completely. With original Tapestries hanging from the ceilings, crystal chandeliers, Halls and Galleries and even an exposition of old armors and weapons. And the views from the gardens are absolutely magical. *Upon request, if you'd like to visit the Castle of Bracciano, you can buy your ticket at the booth and as an alternative to the group tours which they usually arrange, a great way to visit the Castle and its museum is to create your personal, fun itinerary to visit the estate on your own. With the delightful help of a video and audio guide, that you can easily download on your phone by scanning a QR code at the entrance. With wonderful explanations, videos and more. Another charming town is Anguillara, with a beautiful vista This small village hosts a beautiful medieval city center, nestled on a hill overlooking the lake. It's such a charming little town. Famous all over the World, for hosting an episode of the tv show "Everybody loves Raymond". And finally, Trevignano Romano! This gorgeous town, a little smaller than Bracciano or Anguillara, is one of the most frequented towns in the Countryside of Rome. There are cliffs, there are historical buildings, there are ruins of Ancient fortresses, there is a beautiful beach, and lake side promenade. This town has it all! And it's quite old too! In fact there is proof that the presence of people in this territory dates back to the Paleolithic! This village simply reflects and beauty, the traditions and the eagerness to preserve it’s ancient history. The architecture and rustic features are simply breathtaking. We highly recommend opting for a lunch in one of the many restaurants with an exclusive position overlooking the lake! A chance to taste some local delicacies and enjoy breathtaking views. However, upon request of course, we offer a personalized option to consider: We can arrange, for a small additional cost, a full meal with beverages in a unique location. A beautiful terrace overlooking the lake, with a privileged panoramic scene. Although the menu may change depending on the seasonal specialties, the personalized lunch would typically include: A jubilation of different home-made appetizer, bruschettas, frittatas and so on Homemade “pasta” dish served with delicious sauce or other Local home-made desserts All served with sparkling water and carefully selected local wine If you'd like to take advantage of this option of "Lunch in the Veranda on the lake", you can select this during the booking process, to add directly to the cost of the tour. After lunch, your tour driver will make one final stop to Calcata, one of the best preserved medieval hill towns in Italy. Calcata is a magical, medieval destination that’s perfect for art lovers. It is a tiny little village, entirely carved in stone on a cliff that overlooks the forrest below. It is a very fascinating place to see, although its position is not very hospitable to live in permanently. In fact the only few citizens in Calcata today, are often writers, singers, artists, hermits or just people in search of inspiration in this mystical isolation you will encounter first hand. During this tour you can notice how the different towns in the Lake Bracciano area all have their own trait. They are all unique in their own way, history and traditions. You will very much enjoy this private shore excursion. What a great opportunity to explore the more Authentic aspect of life in Italy!

    Rome to Tivoli Shore Excursion

Gardens of Majesty: Discover the Tivoli Villas A time-travel experience from the comfort of your deluxe vehicle, your personal tour driver will drive you through different periods of time, in a heartbeat. Disembark from your cruise ship with your driver waiting for you at the dock, holding a sign. He will greet you with a warm welcome and off you go! From Roman to Renaissance times, the common denominator is: Lavishness and ostentation One thing the Ancient Romans truly mastered is the lavish lifestyle. The wealthy families that is. Tivoli makes for the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city of Rome, even way back then. Not hard to imagine, since the countryside of Rome offers a more relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, from the beginning of times. Tell that to Emperor Hadrian, the so called "Philosopher Emperor". Third on the list of 5 "Good Emperors", fathers of a period of time that brought stability and prosperity to the Empire Hadrian was most known for his passions for art and philosophy, and higher education. Which made his reign one of the most cultural period in the history of the Roman Empire. He also ordered the construction of multiple roads, buildings, theaters and thermal baths. Leaving us with a majestic legacy Today you will get a taste of this incredible legacy: Hadrian's Villa Emperor Hadrian's private villa, for his summer escapades. What more refreshing is there, to unwind in such a beautiful place like Tivoli: a green hamlet just a few miles away from Rome. Walking through this amazingly well-preserved villa you will have the opportunity to admire some of its wonderful treasures, which can only be found here! You'll encounter numerous buildings, fountains and baths. The architectures are simply outstanding. Hadrian's Villa is a remarkable heirloom, an example of the Roman Empire's majesty. And officially, one of Italy's World Heritage site. Next on the Agenda is the glorious Villa D'Este, get ready to embark on a fairy-tale adventure with Discovery Tours But first, Lunch. Your tour driver will be excited to suggest some of the best options for you, to appreciate delicious local cuisine. Then off to Villa D'Este. This Villa and its preservation is a beautiful tribute today, to the Renaissance Era. But what one must focus on, walking through these halls and immaculate gardens is the level of ostentation that must've been key at the time. After all, wealthy Italian families are no strangers to opulence, no matter what Era And it's certainly the case, with Villa D'Este. It was built in the 16th century by the grandson of Pope Alexander VI. This estate is one of the most beautiful palaces and gardens in Italy and perhaps in Europe! The entire complex is structured by a geometric system of paths, ramps, and steps around fountains, crypts, and arched walkways; it is defined as the peak of European garden concepts. There is a lot to reflect on, during this tour: Architectural digests, history, archeology, art. And all in all, how the richest people used their assets to live a slow and leisurely life. Finally, after a relaxing and informative day in the Roman countryside, you’ll be driven back in perfect time to re board your cruise ship.

Because it’s a magnificent, colossal wonder of architectural splendor with a vast complex of gardens, featuring ponds and fountains, and stretches 3km deep into the surrounding hills. The rustic monastery of Monte Cassino is in complete contrast with the splendor of Caserta Palace Perched at the summit of the mountain, this huge fortress-like structure was demolished to the ground by aerial bombing in 1944, killing the many authorities and civilians who had been inside; their resting places can be visited in the nearby war cemeteries. With over 4,000 in the British graveyard alone, we can only imagine the utter devastation the bombing caused. The monastery has been completely reconstructed after an aerial bombing in 1944, and restored to its former glory; we can only imagine how it must’ve looked like originally, with all the frescoes and mosaics intact.
