If you have already visited Rome and you want to see something different.
Your english speaking driver/guide will meet you at the dock of your ship at 8:00am.
After you will drive trough the Roman/Etruscan countryside and our first stop will be the ancient city of Cerveteri (Latin: Caere Greek: Agylia) that is located about 20 mls south-west of Civitavecchia and occupied an immense area protected by steep slopes and fortifications. The English word ceremony comes from the Latin caeremonium, meaning "pertaining to Caere," and reflects the Etruscan fascination with divination and prophecy.
There you are going to meet your local english speaking guide for a private visit of the Etruscan Necropolis Areas that includes the Banditaccia, Sorbo, Cava della Pozzolana, Groppie di San Antonio and Monte Abetone. The Bandittacia represents one of the most interesting archaeological areas in the whole of the Mediterranean.
The majority of the tombs can be dated back to between the 7th and 6th centuries BCE. The most common tombs are those of the underground chamber and tumulus types, where the inner rooms imitate and at times faithfully reproduce the settings of the dwellings of the living.
After we will continue to Bracciano, a small town in the etruscan region of Lazio, 40 mls southwest of Civitavecchia. The town is famous for its volcanic lake (Lago di Bracciano or "Sabatino", the eigth largest lake in Italy) and for a particularly well-preserved medieval castle.
The most important century for Bracciano has been the XV century, in particular year 1560 when the town saw the important marriage between the Orsini and the De Medici. The territory of Bracciano's municipality covers an area of 142 kilometres squared. The climate is mild but quite wet owing to the lake. There can be no doubt the geographical element that most characterizes Bracciano is the lake. It has a volcanic origin and, as every water reservoirs of this kind, has formed in the geological period called Upper Palaeolithic. What is known is that the town started to be inhabited around its castle’s towers built in the X century as a defence against the Saracens.
At the beginning of the 15th Century the Orsini family (which means ‘little bears’) installed itself on the shores of Lake Sabatino, which they had received as a domain and transformed the small hamlet inhabited by fishermen, farmers and horse breeders into an affluent town.
It was the Orsini family who decided to enlarge the existing fortress and build a castle by constructing five cylindrical towers and a marvellous triangular courtyard.  Construction was begun by Neopoleoned Orsini in 1470 and completed by his son Virgilio in 1485.  Rich and magnificent masterpieces from Antonazzo Romano, Pisanello, Francesco Martini and his brother Giorgio, and Zachary embellish the castle.
Eventually, after centuries of internecine battles and financial loss the Orsinis lost the castle in the 19th Century when it fell into the hands of the princely Odescalchi family.  Princess Odescalchi lives in the castle today and its major staterooms are open to visitors all year round.
The history of Bracciano is all determined by this magnificent Castle that you will have a chance to visit during this tour. Due to its structural and architectonic characteristics and the excellent state of conservation it is considered one of the most important castles of Italy.
Though in modern times it has seen its share of celebrity wedding.
Especially on November 19th, 2006 with the "Wedding of the year" between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes that really made this little town worlwide famous. From Bracciano we will continue to Sutri, perhaps the closest, most beautiful and relatively undiscovered Etruscan archeological site,
a lovely little town just an hour from Civitavecchia. The modern comune of Sutri has a few more than 5,000 inhabitants. It ancient remains are a major draw for tourism: Your english speaking driver/guide will escort you trough a Roman amphitheatre excavated in the tufa rock, an Etruscan necropolis with dozens of rock-cut tombs, a Mithraeum incorporated in the crypt of its church of the Madonna del Parto, a Romanesque Duomo.
After your english speaking driver/guide can suggest you a local typical "trattoria" for lunch.
Our next and last destination will be "Calcata" that is considered by many archaeologists to be the finest example of a simple Mediaeval village fortress to be found anywhere in Italy today. The village is predominantly inhabited by a variety of artists, writers, sculptors, potters, crafts people and there is a somewhat bohemian feel to the place. Arriving in Calcata the first thing you will see is a thick curtain of houses that seem to be built in layers, one on top of the other. The only access to the village is a steep cobble stoned street straddled by a narrow gate, too narrow to allow cars through. Your english speaking driver/guide will escort you trough this small and fascinating little town and gives you bassic narration.
After such an exciting and interesting day, you'll enjoy a relaxing ride back to the pier.
